Autistic am I

 Hi, I’m autistic and this is my blog. My intention with this blog is to reach out to people and tell them my story, raise autism awareness and maybe learn of others stories along the way. I also hope , one day, to use this blog as a sort of template to write a book about my autistic journey through life. 

It’s not going to be pretty

But it is going to be honest.

So call me out,

Correct me when I’m wrong 

And Bless me out when I make you angry.

Why

 I looked back on my life and all I saw was a vast trail of wreckage and I had to know ……… why? Things were going better in my life than they ever had. I had a loving wife and two children. We were a happy family. I had a good job with benefits including healthcare. At 50 years old I was 20 years removed from the hellish landscape of my youth. My Autism

 There’s a saying in the autistic community. “If you’ve met one autistic person, you’ve met one autistic person” Autistic people are very different from one to the next. We all have similar struggles , communication, recognizing emotions, both in ourselves and others. Regulating those emotions is also a common challenge. I believe autism affects all of us in exactly the same way but for reasons unknown to me we all are able to deal with these affects differently. I’m not a doctor, I’ve done no studies other than living an autistic life and observing family members that are autistic as well.  This doesn’t make me an expert on autism in general but it does make me an expert on my autism. My autism isn’t readily apparent. I am a very high masking individual. I’m not high functioning. To describe me as that is to diminish my needs.
